Glyph

Play furniture made from kids’ drawings

Designed to enliven empty urban spaces

Designed with children,
built to swing

  • Named after the Greek word for "carving," GLYPH draws inspiration from the engraved symbols found on ancient temples, reimagined through the lens of digital craftsmanship and community design.

The project brought together over 700 local children aged 5–14 from Elefsina, who contributed both their recycled plastic waste and hand-drawn illustrations. These drawings were digitised and engraved onto eight sculptural, swinging benches; transforming discarded material into a vibrant, reconfigurable playscape.

Produced from 240 kg of recycled plastic in tones of wheat yellow, mint green, and water blue, the benches are lightweight, portable, and adaptable; designed to activate underused public spaces through play and interaction.

After serving as part of Eleusis 2023 European Capital of Culture, the benches will be gifted to the participating schools; leaving a lasting legacy of creativity, collaboration, and circular design.
