  • The XXX Bench was developed for the Municipality of Amsterdam as a proof of concept for sustainable urban furniture made from locally sourced plastic waste. Each unit weighs approximately 50 kg, equivalent to the annual plastic waste generated by two Amsterdam residents, making the material footprint both visible and tangible.

    Designed as a rocking seat for two, the bench emphasises collaboration at multiple levels between users, between citizens and city, and within the recycling process itself. By turning local waste streams into a playful yet durable public object, the XXX Bench demonstrates how circular design can move beyond infrastructure and become an engaging part of everyday urban life.
