Customising public
space with design

Participatory tools for urban furniture

Citizens shaping
their own square

  • Hanth explored how public space can be shaped collectively through digital tools. Developed as a permanent installation, the project invited citizens to customize new street furniture for the square via an online platform, turning residents into active contributors to their urban environment.

Each 3D-printed piece could be configured with additional functions such as a bike rack, mini gym, planter, dog feeding bowl, or bookcase, resulting in furniture that differed in colour, form, and purpose. Designed with smooth ergonomic curves, the elements offered comfortable seating while blending the roles of bench, planter, and urban fixture. Hanth transformed the square into a flexible landscape of personalised objects that supported everyday use and a more sustainable city life.
